Eurocopter introduces its Bluecopter® Technology to India

In a workshop organized by the Aeronautical Society of India on "Aviation Environment - Community Noise and Solutions", Eurocopter introduced its two noise-oriented innovations, "Blue Pulse Controls" and "Blue Edge Blades", from its Bluecopter® Technology programme which was developed to provide advanced technological solutions to lower acoustics and emissions for the protection of the environment.
In its participation in the workshop organized by the Aeronautical Society of India at the Hyatt Hotel in New Delhi today, Eurocopter India brought in its specialist, Francois Toulmay, to introduce Eurocopter's noise reduction systems from its Bluecopter® Technology programme. From Eurocopter's Research & Technology department, Francois is also part of the team working on the Green Rotorcraft platform in the EC Clean Sky Joint Technology Initiative.
The Bluecopter® Technology programme was introduced by Eurocopter, as a commitment to "continuously improve our processes to further reduce the impact of both our Group and our products and services on the environment", as highlighted by Eurocopter President & CEO Lutz Bertling.
With reduction of community noise as the focus, Francois Toulmay introduced two noise-oriented innovations from Bluecopter® -Blue pulse controls and Blue edge blades.
Blue pulse controls - This active control system has the primary objective of reducing the system-inherent noise level generated by the interference of the rotor blade tip vortices from one rotor blade with the following blades. At the same time, the vibrations will also be reduced significantly in order to increase comfort of passengers and service life of sensitive components.
Blue edge blades - This programme aims to reduce the noise generated by the blade-vortex interaction, which is generated at the tip of the blade of any helicopter. The double arrow shape of the Blue Edge blade allows more time for the blade to interact with the vortex and thus dephases acoustic sources. Consequently, the resulting noise level is greatly reduced, and the impulsive character of the acoustic signal fades as well.
Such environmentally friendly technologies will be installed progressively on the Eurocopter product range as they mature.
Eurocopter is a funding member of the Clean Sky Joint Technology Initiative, a wide scale European research effort - supported by the European Union and the major aeronautical industry groups - to propose technological solutions for meeting the environmental goals set by the Advisory Council for Aeronautics Research in Europe (ACARE). Eurocopter hosts a Bluecopter® dedicated websitewww.bluecopter.com which provides details of the programme.

The parties signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) after several months of detailed negotiations.
"This is our first CSeries aircraft customer in Asia and signals the aircraft program's entry into the fast growing Asia-Pacific market," said Gary R. Scott, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. "Korean Air is one of the world's most prestigious airlines, and we are extremely proud that it has selected the CSeries aircraft to meet its route expansion requirements."
"Our list of customers continues to grow and now covers the Asian, European and North American markets, a testament to the high value and operating flexibility of the CSeries aircraft program," added Mr. Scott.

VistaJet Places Firm Order for 10 Bombardier Global 8000 Jets

Bombardier Aerospace today announced that VistaJet of Switzerland has placed a firm order for 10 Global 8000 aircraft. The total value of the order is approximately $650 million US, based on the 2011 list price for typically equipped aircraft.
"It was eight years ago, also at the Paris Air Show, that our two companies began this journey, and only six years ago at Paris that VistaJet placed its first Global aircraft order," said Steve Ridolfi, President, Bombardier Business Aircraft. "It's a true testament to our products and people that VistaJet, an industry leader in luxury aviation, continues its global expansion with an all-Bombardier fleet. Like Bombardier, VistaJet is a leader in developing new markets, where our aircraft are ideally suited to meet the demanding needs of customers. There is an increasingly strong demand for large cabin business jets that can connect virtually any city pair worldwide non-stop, and the Global 8000 jet is the only contender to meet this requirement."
VistaJet, a privately owned company offering revolutionary business aviation solutions through its one-of-a-kind Flight Solutions Program, exclusively purchases and operates Bombardier business aircraft. Just one month ago, Bombardier confirmed that VistaJet ordered two Challenger 605 and six Global 6000 jets in late January 2011. This latest Global aircraft order raises VistaJet's order backlog value to approximately $2 billion US.
"This aircraft order confirms our development strategy is on track as we rapidly establish ourselves in the world's fastest growing markets," said Thomas Flohr, Founder and Chairman, VistaJet. "VistaJet has successfully expanded far beyond Europe's borders, and we now have major customers in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) who require longer-haul aircraft with state-of-the-art cabins. The Global 8000 business jets are ideal to meet the needs of our passengers in these regions. As we grow our global network, our customers can be ensured a consistent experience with the best aircraft, cabins and service worldwide."
Global 8000 aircraft: Flying farther than any other business jet(i), the Global 8000 aircraft will feature a superior three-zone 2,236-cu.ft. (63.32-cu.m.) cabin and an impressive range of 7,900 nm (14,631 km) at M 0.85(i). It will connect Sydney-Los Angeles, Hong Kong-New York and Mumbai-New York non-stop with eight passengers(i). The Global 8000 jet will reach a high-speed cruise of M 0.90(i). Entry-into-service is currently scheduled for 2017.

Featuring a high-speed cruise of M 0.90(i), these aircraft are designed to outperform all others, connecting more key city pairs non-stop worldwide through a combination of outstanding range, fuel efficiency and balanced field length.
Ultimate comfort and flexibility
Cabin features include: maximum natural light through new enlarged windows that provide approximately 80 per cent more surface per window than on current Global aircraft; a generous baggage suite that is accessible during flight; a crew rest area equipped with berthable seating; a spacious galley with optimized meal preparation and storage possibilities; an innovative approach to cabin zones, giving customers more flexibility and choice when defining their floorplan; and innovative design options that bring the comforts of home to the aircraft environment.

GoAir Low Fair Airlines Places Order 72 Airbus 320 Aircrafts Worth Rs.32.400

GoAir, the 'fly smart' low-fare domestic airline today announced that it has placed an order for additional 72 aircraft worth Rs 32,400 crore or US$ 7.2 billion.
GoAir's total order with Airbus is now 92 aircraft worth Rs 43,200 crore or US$ 9.6 billion. The airline previously placed an order of 20 Airbus A320s.
Go Air currently operates 10 aircraft with an average age of 2 years which makes it the youngest fleet in India.
The company will take delivery of its additional aircraft from its previous order over the next 24 months.
Announcing the strategic initiative at a press conference, Mr. Jeh Wadia, Managing Director, GoAir said: "As part of our Vision 2020, we have placed an order for additional 72 A320 NEO aircraft with Airbus. These aircraft will give us a further competitive advantage of up to 15% on efficiency, primarily gained from a much improved fuel burn."
Mr. Wadia also said that: "We are very committed to reduce Carbon emissions through comprehensive programs of reinvestment in equipment and technological innovation and partnerships. In line with this commitment this order with Airbus will ensure we continuously reduce greenhouse gas (GHG). Some of the other initiatives we have taken on in the past is to minimize our ground speeds and wash our engines frequently which increase the engine efficiency apart from saving fuel."
The placement of an additional 72 aircraft is a game-changer for GoAir and the Indian aviation sector. "In terms of aircraft, we see tremendous potential in India which has barely six airlines with 350 aircraft catering to a billion people, compared to China's present 1100 aircraft. Incidentally, with all the present orders placed by Indian carriers we would only reach 1100 aircraft by 2020. One domestic airline in America, SouthWest, already has close to 700 aircraft. In terms of seats flown, one airline in Europe, Ryan Air sold approx. 65 million seats last year while the whole of Indian aviation sold just 54 million seats*. With India's GDP growing at a brisk 8-9% per annum, we see a great future ahead for the aviation sector, including GoAir. Our strategy is to fly those who currently don't fly," Mr. Wadia added.
GoAir today also announced the appointment of Mr. Giorgio De Roni as its Chief Executive Officer. Commenting on the new appointment, Mr. Wadia said: "On behalf of the Board members of GoAir, I welcome Mr. Giorgio De Roni to the GoAir family. Giorgio brings deep and rich experience spanning 25 years in the aviation industry. In his last job, he was instrumental in increasing passenger traffic from 1 to 8 million, increasing market share from 6% to over 30% and thereby delivering substantial profits to the US$1 billion Italian private airline Air One. We feel he is the right person to further build and weave together a world class management team to take the company to the next level of its growth trajectory."
Mr. Giorgio De Roni said: "I am delighted to be part of GoAir, the most profitable, most revered and best managed airline in India. It will be my endeavor to expand the operations profitably and continue to provide miles and smiles to our customers. With the delivery of new aircraft to take place soon, the brand proposition 'fly smart' will get a whole new dimension."
"Our aircraft utilization is best-in-category, giving us operational edge over others. GoAir recently received Best Performing Airline award in the Airbus A320 category operator in Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa region. The award is presented every two year by Airbus based on both fleet utilization and performance achievements in each region and worldwide and for two categories of fleet size. Their metrics take into account On-time performance as well as severity of the operational interruptions (based on the Airbus Severity Index calculation)," he added.
GoAir currently operates across 18 destinations 133 daily flights and approximately 931 weekly flights. The destinations include Ahmedabad, Bagdogra, Bengalooru, Chandigarh, Cochin, Delhi, Goa, Guwahati, Jaipur, Jammu, Leh, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Nanded, Patna, Pune and Srinagar.
